2020 Sport not available with manual transmission

Hyundai has dropped the 6MT from the Sport for 2020.

The Elantra Sport returns to the lineup, but it ditches the manual transmission. As a result, the turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine which produces 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) is connected exclusively to a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox.

First thing I thought of as well. Looks nice. Probably will have same everything the Elantra Sports have and maybe more. Starting price $22k-$23k. Not sure why anyone wouldn't consider this if they like the Elantra Sport.

Is there any sort of negativity with the Kia brand?

Not from me - in fact I was really serious about getting a Stinger GT2, but got the Volvo Polestar instead - got a heck of a deal and it's a performance wagon. And I'm a big fan of performance wagons.

I like the recently announced Stinger GTS.

I think the Kia Forte GT would be a great alternative to the 17/18 ES.

Thumbs up

I think its great that KIA has kept the manual, maybe Hyundai is going towards the "upmarket" while KIA is the performance, fun brand, makes sense and CENTS too.

-SXTH Element CPLT intake/catch can
-Konig Oversteers 18 x 8 +45mm offset-3 season set up

My thought is that they are only making the manual transmission available on cars that have an "N" badge, be it an N-Line or a full N Performance version.

With that said, the new Forte GT is great and if something happens to my car in the near future I will replace it with the Kia. It might drive slightly different from the ES since the engine is the updated 1.6L with higher compression and an electronic wastegate. (same power) Suspension would be tuned different, and I believe it has a quicker steering ratio. I really like the interior.

About the Kia in general. I did visit my local Kia dealership some time ago (they did not have the GT at that time ) but I did look at the regular Forte. In my opinion, Kia is using better quality of plastics and use more of the soft touch type (for example the trim under the side windows). They are growing on me and while I do not intend to switch to a Forte GT 5 (sedan will not be available in Canada), I will certainly look at it in depth and compare against Hyundai.

This is an extremely frustrating point for me as an avid manual trans supporter. I get it, its all about sales numbers. But if dealers would stock more manuals in trim models like the sport, they will sell more (see manual-only models in history like dodge SRT4, chevy cobalt SS, ford focus and fiesta ST, etc).
