2017 Hyundai Elantra Sport Is Just Right

It may not be a Ford Focus RS alternative or a car to satisfy your Renault F1 Team R26.R import cravings, but the Truth About Cars thinks the 2017 Hyundai Elantra Sport is the “best version of Hyundai’s best product.”

For a starting price of just $21,650, buyers will get a 1.6-liter turbo powered sedan with 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque on top. For manual fans, the Elantra sport comes with a six-speed manual shifter or an optional seven-speed dual-clutch automatic is available for an additional $1,100.

Giving the Sport variant an edge over the regular trims is its unique suspension and steering tuning which improves its drive dynamics for “quicker turn-in, even-keeled cornering, sufficient shove out of corners,” and the exhaust note isn’t too shabby either. The ride quality is exceptional as well and feels more like a Sonata thank the previous Elantra.

Sure, its roll stiffness could do with modest increase and an extra 20 lb-ft of torque wouldn’t go amiss either. But you’d be hard pressed to find something with classy styling and flexibility at every point on the rev counter like the Elantra Sport for such an economical price.
