I would like all your input on a center exhaust.
Would the 'muffler' be better closer to the bumper (#1) or the engine (#2)?

Pros:
Straighter pipe = less restriction
Less pipe = less weight

Cons:
Unknown length 'tuning' (though I'm under the impression that for forced induction cars the primary header length is most important)
Need to weld on hangers
Need a heat shield

I doubt that the muffler placement will have much effect either way, especially with the minimal differences in your diagram; just put it where space permits. Also, I would add the need to cut the rear bumper and do something to patch the existing exit hole as cons.

Thanks,
I'm thinking of getting rid of the current diffuser (dull black portion) all together, then a custom one in the spring for the single center exhuast.
