Hey everyone!

Picked up an electric blue ES base today, just hours after my purchase we had golf ball size hail come through town, luckily I was taking a break from driving and she was parked in the garage. I enjoyed my first day of driving and look forward to many more. Just wanted to say hello.

Congrats man! Envious and will soon be joining you all coming from my second Veloster turbo. What are standard break-in rules? When can I actually comfortably drive in heavy boost? (Sorry to semi-thread jack you) :)
600 miles, stay between 2k and 4k, don't drive less than 10 minutes (let engine come up to temp), don't maintain same speed for long periods of time, needs varied driving for that first 600 miles. Then the standard list of don'ts (don't race, don't redline, don't WOT, don't break heavily, etc).

And of course never ever ever go WOT until car is at temp with ANY turbo car.

What's considered a long period of time? I have a 25 min commute, and like 10-15 of it is backroad highway at 55 mph but the rest varies. Is that fine? And cars warm up fast here in AZ, Is it just making sure it's at temp before shutoff in those first 600? And am I cleared for takeoff after ~600~ miles?

Thanks so much for the answers, I can't wait to get one of these asap (dealer needs to obtain a white base DCT and then I will trade in my 16 Veloster turbo.)

I'm in AZ as well, I have a 20 minute commute from Casa Grande to near Maricopa every day. Cruise set at 60. I know they say to not stay at the same speed for too long but I didn't really have a choice. Sometimes you just can't avoid it.

The important thing is that the car gets varied throttle so everything can seat correctly. Don't set cruise control, just use the gas and give slight variations if you must be on the highway for a while. 20-25 minute highway commute isn't too bad because you have city driving before and after which gives it a good variance. They are mainly saying don't do a road trip where you set the speed and kill 300 miles.

One thing I did when I was driving on super slow back roads with traffic where the car never gets over 25 mph was to use the shift select mode (since I drove A/T) so I can manually switch between second and third gear, keeping it within 2-4k rpm and varying the speeds. If you have A/T I'd recommend the same. Either way just try to avoid having it super low or super high rpms on those highway drives and try to vary it.

This is one of my favorite youtube guys, he explains in this video why the break in periods are necessary:
