P0455 CEL for EVAP Issue List

Everyone, some of you may not be on my facebook group (join if you haven't! :) )so I thought I would post this here as well. Several of you have had the CEL illuminate with P0455 due to an evaporative emissions problem. This is currently a very common issue, especially those that live in cold climates. I think there's enough of a problem here that it needs to be brought to Hyundai's attention, so I put together a little form for people to fill out that have had the issue. That way we can get a list together as proof that, at the very least, a TSB should be issued for a fix.

Please do not fill out this form if you have not had a CEL for P0455 or do not currently own an Elantra Sport.

Thanks!

Update on P0455 issue 5/2/18:

I have been in contact with a Hyundai Master Technician who is working on getting us a fix for this issue. They have discovered that some of the fuel/vapor lines (plastic ones) for the EVAP system near the fuel tank are collapsing. Completely unheard of, but I've seen photos. There will likely be a recall to replace the hoses, as well as the Purge Control Valve. And a software update could come with it.

I will update this again when I hear more.

Mine one just got the same issue. Will take it to dealer for checking.
I have 2017 Elantra Sport, same issue, got CEL 4 time now.

21k miles, 30° or below when it came on.
They only reset the code and guesting the fuel cap issue. Will ask them for an inspection next time.
It's not the fuel cap. It's probably the EVAP solenoid. There has been no official resolution on this. Someone on the east coast already had their car purchased back by Hyundai through lemon laws due to this issue.

Mine just popped in today. Not very happy about it. Tried my gas cap, I knew it wasn’t it but tried anyway. Have no filled up in over a week so I knew it wasn’t that. To the dealer I go... 20,050 miles on it.

Mine came on 21,000 30 degrees, took it in and was told the purge valve is the problem. Did not have it in stock so they cleared the code and it’s been 5 days since and it hasn’t come on again. Is this an intermittent problem that just sets of the check engine light but in reality not a big deal and not something that will be solved by replacing the valve if they all malfunction?

How are you checking your codes and can you clear them yourself? On my GTI is was easy with obdelevn but I am not sure if there is such a platform for Hyundai

Pretty much. It's mostly a cold weather issue. I live in the Arizona desert and although it gets a bit chilly at night right now (mid 30's this morning) I'm at 45k miles and the CEL has never come on for any issue.
Here in Chicago! We've been having problems vent valve solenoid freezing up causing CEL to come in.
I've had the same code come on many times. Took it to the dealership and they replaced the evap canister. Code came back. I havn't gone back to the dealership about it; rather I've been clearing the code during the winter with my OBD2 reader.
Mine came up today. I have an OBD2 bluetooth reader. P0455
hey everyone,

Recently encountered this issue with repeated evap codes living in Canada. I'm wondering if anyone could recommend a reasonably priced obd2 reader that can clear this code for me?. Thanks in advance!
hey all,

I've recently started experiencing this issue with repeated evap warning lights. I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a reasonably priced obd2 reader that can clear this code for someone living in Canada who prefers to pay via paypal?

thanks in advance!

Buy a bluetooth OBD reader off Amazon for $20-30 and get the Torque Pro app for your phone. You can monitor several sensors on the car, datalog, and read and delete codes.
ok awesome!

I will definitely pursue that. I suppose the only other question I would have is wondering if clearing your own codes could cause warranty issues? I'd be curious to know since i'm rocking the warranty spec lol :)

Thanks again for all the info!

Never heard anyone have warranty issues because of it so I wouldn't think so.

it will not cause any warranty problems if you erase the code.

Threw a CEL today. Was about 45 degrees at the time. Dealer looked it over and said it was the evap-can and ordered parts; comp'ed a service loaner. 2017 with 36K miles 6MT all stock.
