I just keep mine connected to the USB for carplay and hide it under the sliding tray.

This - except i have a 8 plus so it doesn't quite fit under the lid. You really shouldn't need your phone visible if you use carplay or android auto IMO

It would be nice if the USB inside the arm rest was connected to the infotainment unit for carplay/android auto so you could hide it easier. That if they would bring wireless option in a firmware update some day.
