Background: Late afternoon on a back road. I wanted to work on launching with the DCT using the emergency brake to hold. I launched with a lot of wheel spin and the motor automatically cut power. I had the traction control button off. Any thoughts why this may have happened?

Possibly the wheel spin or hop caused a false knocking to pcm therefore pcm see any detonation going to cause loss of engine power!

NO. I was under the impression you only needed to turn off traction control.
Give it a try with ESC off too by holding the traction control button for 3 seconds. It cuts off power too when it feels you're losing control

without traction, engine won't create as much load.
it's like comparing a datalog of a 1th gear pull vs a 4th one
